Simultaneous interpreting

It is often referred to as “simultaneous translation”. However, the terms interpretation and translation are used respectively to differentiaite the work with spoken word and with written texts.

Traditional simultaneous interpreting

In traditional simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter sits in a booth from where they can see the room where the event is taking place and listen to the speaker. While listening to the speech, the interpreter translates it into a target language.

Depending on the characteristics of the event, it is sometimes possible to do simultaneous interpreting without a booth, replacing it by a wireless audio system, similar to those used on guided tours.

Remote simultaneous interpreting

In remote simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter works from a different location to the one where the meeting is taking place. They join the meeting through a screen and interpret with appropriate headphones and microphone.
